Elouise Roberts is an Armidale based artist. She completed a Fine Arts degree from University of Newcastle. In the year 2000 Elouise won the Maitland Art Gallery’s tertiary student art prize, and in 2002 she won the New England Art Society’s Champion Prize. Elouise uses a combination of painting and drawing media including charcoal, graphite, acrylic and oil paint. The themes of landscape, shadow and light are the focus of her work. She does not depict a specific place or time in her work, she seeks to evoke a particular atmosphere, memory and imagination
She uses sweeping strokes that generate movement and texture and this has become a distinctive feature across many of her works. Elouise spent much of her childhood in the Northern Territory and the trips that she made from the north to the tablelands as a child have made a lasting impression on her creative mind, consequently, the inspiration for much of her work comes from the local landscape.
