Isabelle Devos

Isabelle Devos was born in Belgium and grew up in Canada where she studied photography and painting at university. It was there that she fell in love with the landscape.

Isabelle says, “I have been working as an artist for twenty years, using photography, painting and conceptual works to describe and translate what I see. Since 1999 painting the landscape has been taken over as my primary means of expression.

As an artist I continue to be entranced by the Australian landscape, with its’ intensity of colour, light and shadow.

I simplify and abstract the landscape, highlighting the juxtaposition between human structures and the natural world: buildings in the landscape, or areas of nature within a city. I am especially interested in the edges where these two attempt to coexist.”
